The faithful of the Orthodox Church in Moldova have received a great blessing, in the form of the relics of one of the greatest Russian saints.

A piece of the relics of the Right-Believing Prince St. Alexander Nevsky will be solemnly transferred today from the St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg to the cathedra in Chișinău, where one of the chapels is dedicated to the great Russian saint, reports RIA-Novosti.

His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Chișinău had previously turned to His Eminence Metropolitan Barsanuphius of St. Petersburg and Ladoga with a request to transfer the sacred relics to Moldova.

“The abbot of the Holy Trinity-St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra Bishop Nazary decided to give a piece of the relics of the Right-Believing Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky as a gift to the cathedral… The relics will leave St. Petersburg today so that they will already be in Chișinău on the eve of the feast of the transfer of the relics of the Right-Believing Alexander Nevsky (September 12), and the people will be able to venerate them on the feast itself,” explained Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko, the founder and head of the St. Petersburg children’s hospice.

“It will be a great celebration for the entire Moldovan Church and for all the Orthodox faithful,” Fr. Alexander added.
