Constantinople, October 10, 2018
The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople will hear the report of its two exarch bishops to Kiev at its session today, Evstraty Zorya, the speaker for the schismatic “Kiev Patriarchate,” has written on his personal Facebook page.
It was previously reported that the exarchs were invited to the Synod’s meeting and that the Synod did not discuss the Ukraine issue at the first day of its meeting yesterday. The meeting continues today and tomorrow.
Only after hearing the report from Archbishop Daniel of Pamphilon and Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton on their activities in Ukraine, including their negotiations with the schismatic “Kiev Patriarchate” and the schismatic “Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church,” will a decision on whether to grant autocephaly to the schismatics be made, Zorya writes.
The Ukrainian Churches of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the U.S. and Canada have been friendly with the Ukrainian schismatics for years, and their hierarchs, Abp. Daniel and Bp. Ilarion, have had especially close discussions with schismatic representatives, such as Evastraty Zorya, over the past few weeks of their stay in Kiev.
