The list includes 24 churches
Kiev, October 10, 2018
Ukrainian authorities have compiled a list of churches and monasteries they want to confiscate the from the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church as part of the process of creating an autocephalous Church in Ukraine, Donetsk People’s Republic politician Pavel Gubarev wrote on his Vkontakte social media page on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has been taking inventory of all the churches, monasteries, and properties belonging to the canonical Ukrainian Church, which the Church has said is precisely a preparatory measure towards seizing those properties. Ukrainian nationalist-radical-schismatics, including “Patriarch” Philaret of the “Kiev Patriarchate” have repeatedly announced their intentions to steal such properties, and especially the Kiev Caves Lavra, which is the heart of Russian-Ukrainian spirituality.
According to Gubarev, he received a list of churches and monasteries from reliable sources in the capital. “Our people in Kiev set me a list of objects they’re preparing to capture in Ukraine as part of autocephaly. They plan to start on the feast of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God, October 14 (which coincides with the day of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army),” he writes.
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army, created on October 14, 1942, was a Ukrainian nationalist paramilitary and later partisan army that engaged in genocide and guerrilla conflicts against the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and, on some occasions, against Nazi Germany during World War II.
The list of 24 churches and monasteries includes the Kiev Caves Lavra and several other monasteries and churches in Kiev, as well as in Lvov, Lutsk, Izmail, Rogatin, Nezhin, Miltsi, Mezhgorye, Odessa, Maniava, and also in Crimea.
The abbot of the Kiev Caves Lavra, His Eminence Metropolitan Paul of Vyshogorod and Chernobyl, earlier warned about provocations planned against the Kiev Caves and Pochaev Lavras, precisely on October 14. He warned of attacks on the same day last year as well, though, with thanks to God, the attack did not happen.
For speaking up this year, Met. Paul was then added to a list of enemies of Ukraine compiled by the government-backed website Mirotvorets. Several other hierarchs, including His Beatitude Metropolitan Onurphy of Kiev and All Ukraine, have also been added to the list. The site publishes people’s personal information, and people listed on the site have been known to wind up dead.
