His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church awarded 35 annual scholarships today to gifted students from large families.

The scholarships were funded by the Sima Andrejević-Igumanov Endowment, which also gave 100 scholarships to students from Kosovo earlier this month.

“The family is the first blessing with which God blessed people. The family is a place, an environment where we receive the most important rules of life, the most important principles by which we later try to grow up and develop,” the Patriarch explained, emphasizing out that the most important thing in a family is that mom and dad love, understand and support each other, because that love is the biggest investment and the biggest capital that they can pass on to their children.

The Patriarch pointed out that the Church, following the message of our Lord Jesus Christ, preaches the family exactly as it is described in the Holy Scriptures and therefore tries to always reward those who trust in God’s providence without calculation.

The number of scholarships for gifted students was increased from 13 to 35 this year, worth more than $59,000 (6.3 million dinar).
