About 1,000 residents of Malawi were baptized into holy Orthodoxy last week at various parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church’s African Exarchate.

His Eminence Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism at four different parishes between April 11 and 14. He was concelebrated by Fr. George Maximov, the chairman of the Exarchate’s Missionary Department, and other clergy, the Exarchate reports.

On the same days, Fr. George and other clergy also celebrated Baptisms at three other parishes.

The newly baptized were given cross necklaces and icons to start an icon corner with, as well as an Orthodox catechism in the Chewa language, prepared specifically for this trip.

The Baptisms were preceded by catechism at the parishes of the Russian Church’s African Exarchate.

OrthoChristian previously reported on the Baptism of 142 people in Malawi in May 2023.

Recall that the Patriarchate of Alexandria has declared both Met. Konstantin and Fr. George defrocked due to offenses arising from their activity on the canonical territory of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
