A missionary team from the Metropolis of Larissa of the Greek Orthodox Church participated in a mass Baptism ceremony of approximately 100 people in the Orthodox community of Jinja, Eastern Uganda, last month.

The service included small children, infants, teenagers, and adults, including mothers with their children, who received Orthodox Baptism wearing white robes last month, reports Orthodoxia.info.

The Greek missionary team was welcomed with enthusiasm and traditional dances in the courtyard of the church. Bishop Silvester of Jinja and Eastern Uganda of the Patriarchate of Alexandria welcomed the visitors and gave them a tour of the episcopal facilities, including a new episcopal residence currently under construction.

The rite culminated with the newly baptized entering the church to the sounds of psalms. Bp. Silvester emphasized the importance of spiritual purity and the possibility of redemption through the Sacrament of Confession, describing the white robe as a symbol of rebirth and responsibility.

At the end of the service, local students from the community presented an impromptu acrobatic display, followed by a communal meal with offerings from sponsor families, primarily from Larissa.

The presence of the volunteers from Larissa received warm recognition from the community, with many expressing their gratitude spontaneously.

The event took place as part of ongoing Orthodox missionary activities in the region, where the Greek Orthodox Church maintains an active presence in Eastern Uganda.
