Commentators have described a new video showing a leading Planned Parenthood official admitting that abortionists sell aborted babies' body parts “gruesome” and “disturbing.” But Planned Parenthood describes its side business in a different way: as a “humanitarian undertaking."

The nation's largest abortion provider has responded to a viral undercover video showing Dr. Deborah Nucatola released this morning by saying that its human organ trafficking “holds the potential to cure disease, save lives, and ameliorate suffering.”

Eric Ferraro, the vice president of communications for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, admitted in a statement today that “we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research.” But he insisted all national affiliates do so “with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards.”

“There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or Planned Parenthood,” he said, claiming the funds Dr. Nucatola asked for merely reimbursed “the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers.”

On the video, Nucatola discussed charging $30 to $100 per body part, while munching salad and sipping wine.

She also seemed to describe performing an abortion procedure outlawed by Congress a dozen years ago. “You can take her words in the video and line it up point by point with the legal definition of partial birth abortion,” David Daleiden, project lead at the newly public Center for Medical Progress, which released the footage and a complete transcript of the conversation following a 30-month investigation.

Her Twitter profile was removed a mere 90 minutes after the video's release.

Planned Parenthood then released a second statement, claiming that “Deborah Nucatola was speculating on the range of reimbursement that patients can receive after stating they wish to donate any tissue after a procedure.”

CMP said even the abortion provider's defense admitted illegal activity.

“Planned Parenthood makes two key admissions in their statement today: 1) aborted fetal parts are harvested at their clinics, and 2) money is exchanged in connection with this,” the group said in a press release.

“The Center for Medical Progress has obtained an advertisement to Planned Parenthood clinics from StemExpress, LLC, one of the major purchases of Planned Parenthood’s aborted fetal tissue,” it continued. “This flyer advertises 4 different times the financial benefit that Planned Parenthood clinics can receive from supplying fetal tissue, with the words: 'Financially Profitable,' 'Financial Profits,' 'financial benefit to your clinic,' 'fiscal growth of your own clinic.'” The advertisement carries an endorsement from Planned Parenthood Medical Director Dr. Dorothy Furgerson.”

He said that Nucatola's admission is but the tip of the iceberg.

Daleiden told LifeSiteNews this morning that a single Planned Parenthood abortion facility “could easily make $100,000 a year off baby part sales just in one clinic.”

Planned Parenthood continues to deny it has any fiduciary interest in the trade, blasting a “promotional video mischaracterizing Planned Parenthood’s mission and services” being “made by a long time anti-abortion activist that has used deceptive and unethical video editing.”

But Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and a CMP board member, told LifeSiteNews today, “Planned Parenthood has sonogram machines the same way that your butcher has a scale, to sell meat by the pound for profit.”

Daleiden promised that many more revelations will be forthcoming.
