“The Right Sector” attempted to take over an Orthodox church in Volhynia (+Video)

Volhynia, the Ukraine, November 16, 2015

Supporters of the so-called “Kyiv Patriarchate” assisted by the people with stripes of “the Right Sector” attempted to take over the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael in the Zalukhiv village of the Ukraine’s Volhynia (Volyn) region.

The church belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP), reports the Orthodox Journalists Union.

“At about 9 AM a column of people wearing camouflage uniforms and with stripes of the “Right Sector” Volunteer Ukrainian Corpus approached the church. They demanded to be let in to celebrating a Liturgy,” the church rector, Fr. Vladimir Kovtach, related.

According to the video made by the parishioners, the uniformed people cordoned the church off and started a verbal skirmish with the supporters of the UOC MP.

According to the church rector, the “Right Sector” members also expressed their intention to seize the church. The UOC MP parishioners called the police so as to avoid a possible clash, reports Korrespondent.net. As soon as the Ministry for Internal Affairs officers arrived, the “Kyiv Patriarchate” and “Right Sector” representatives began to disperse,” the priest reported.
