Jerusalem, October 18, 2018
A solemn service was held on the night of October 13 in the Holy Lavra of St. Savas the Sanctified outside Jerusalem, during which the relics of the great 5th-6th century saint were transferred to a new reliquary.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, with the concelebration of His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki of the Greek Orthodox Church, who oversaw the making of the elegant new silver reliquary. They were joined by several other hierarchs and clergy, reports the site of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.
St. Savas’ holy relics had reposed in the same reliquary since the time they were returned to Jerusalem from Venice in 1965 (the story of the 1965 transferal can be read on the Mystagogy blog).
The new reliquary was lovingly made as an offering of thanksgiving for all the miracles worked by the saint’s relics for the fathers of the monastery and pilgrims from around the world.
