Plans are in the works for Epiphany Dumenko, the primate of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” to make an official visit to Greece and concelebrate with the head of the Greek Church in Athens.
Alexander Drabinko, a former canonical metropolitan who chose to leave the Church and become a schismatic, spoke about the plans in a recent interview with UA: Ukrainian Radio.
“The first visit of His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphany to the head of the Greek Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos, will be official,” Drabinko said. “The first concelebration of the Divine Liturgy will be held in Athens, and it will be an official visit.”
Plans are underway but not finalized. “I do not know when it will be, but this visit is planned,” Drabinko said.
Abp. Ieronymos, the President of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church, was the first primate after Patriarch Bartholomew to recognize the schismatic OCU, which he did by sending an irenic letter to Epiphany Dumenko on October 21. He commemorated Dumenko for the first time on November 10.
Abp. Ieronymos recently announced his desire to resign as primate.
Together with Simeon Shotatsky, the other bishop who abandoned the Orthodox Church, Alexander Drabinko recently led the first pilgrimage of the OCU schismatics to Greece after Abp. Ieronymos recognized them, where they received a warm welcome in some places but were shut out by clergy and the faithful in other places.
