His Eminence Metropolitan Philip of Poltava and Mirgorod will personally baptize babies of large families in the Poltava Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports the diocesan press service.
“His Eminence Philip, Metropolitan of Poltava and Mirgorod, announced his readiness to personally perform the sacrament of Baptism of the third and subsequent children in the families of faithful parishioners of the Poltava Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for the glory of God,” the statement reads.
His Holiness Patriarch-Catholicos Ilia II of Georgia, the most beloved and trusted man in the nation, began the same practice in 2008 in an effort to boost demographics in the post-Soviet nation. The primate has acquired more than 40,000 Godchildren in 62 mass Baptisms in the past 11 years.
In December 2017, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine stated that he was prepared to baptize the fifth and higher child of faithful Ukrainian families.
Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod has also been personally celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism for children from large families since 2016.
