The Holy Synod of the Cypriot Orthodox Church has decided to allow marriages to be celebrated in church during the Nativity Fast as so many have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic quarantine measures.

Meeting on Friday, May 29, the hierarchs resolved to allow marriages during the first month of the Nativity Fast, from November 15 to December 12, reports Orthodoxia.info.

Marriages are normally not celebrated in church on fasting days and during the four fasting periods of the liturgical cycle.

His Eminence Metropolitan George of Paphos also commented that the hierarchs agreed that the Church should adhere to the government’s measures to overcome the health crisis.

Churches reopened for personal prayers throughout Cyprus on May 4, and the Divine services with the participation of the laity resumed today.
