Ukrainian LGBT activists have angered officials with the publication yesterday of what is being described as a “blasphemous” and “idiotic” video.

In the video in question, published on the KyivPride Facebook page, a drone is seen carrying an LGBT rainbow flag up to the world-famous Motherland Monument in Kiev, making it appear as though the statue is holding the flag, rather than its sword, in solidarity with the group.

On the other hand, others see it as an affront to Ukrainian heroes who gave their lives in WW2. The monument is part of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

The video also features the hashtag #momwillunderstandandsupport.

“The Motherland for equality for all! A large LGBT+ flag waves over all of Kiev today,” reads the group’s statement.

The flying of the flag and the video were condemned by Oleg Voloshin, a People’s Deputy from the Opposition Platform-For Life faction of the Verkhovna Rada.

“And after that, our comrades with the corresponding deviancies are surprised that they are not understood,” the MP wrote on his Facebook page.

“And sometimes its quite painful for them they are not understood. There are no words. And this on the eve of June 22 [the memorial day for Ukrainian victims in WW2—Ed.] ! To make a symbol of the Motherland, which lost millions of its sons and daughters, allude to unhappy women whose deviant children expect their support, is not just blasphemy—it’s idiocy,” he continued.

Moreover, those behind the event have only made life more difficult for themselves, Voloshin believes.

“Today, its authors have made the lives of their ‘colleagues’ much harder. It would be hard to hurt the people more than this, even were they to attach their flag to the cross on St. Sophia’s Cathedral tomorrow,” he lamented.

The video was published just days after the Ukrainian Parliament’s Law Enforcement Committee rejected gender-based bills that criminalize pro-family actions and criticism of LGBT people.
