Around 3000 Muslims infected with COVID in Hagia Sophia says Turkish professor

An Associate Professor at the Department of Health at a leading Turkish university believes that cases of coronavirus will only be increasing in Turkey after the first mass Moslem prayer in Hagia Sophia.

Dr. Sarp Üner, an Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health at Hacettepe University in Ankara, said that during the first Moslem prayer in Hagia Sophia, about 3,000 people fell ill with coronavirus, according to a Greek Orthodox agency ikivotos.gr.

Üner noted that according to observations within Turkey as to the growth rate of COVID-19, the number of infected is expected to increase drastically after the forced conversion of Hagia Sophia into a Mosque.

The professor was quoted as saying, “worship in Hagia Sophia will increase the number of cases in Istanbul.”

Earlier, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared 350,000 people came to the first Moslem prayer in Hagia Sophia.

This is not the first tragic event which has happened after Hagia Sophia was converted into a Mosque.

Earlier, OrthoChristian reported on how an Islamic Turkish Muezzin who had been working at the service since its conversion to a mosque died of a heart attack in Hagia Sophia.

To @Ricardo Pondoyo: there's nothing "little and tiny" in the doctrinal differences between Orthodox and papists. It's BIG and MAJOR. The papists shoud renounce the innovations implemented over the thousand + years of schism and return to the fullness of the Orthodox Church. And I'm not talking here about the poor believer from Barangay area in Manilla, but those in power: priests, bishops, cardinals, scholars and the pope himself. If they will renounce their heresies, the lay people will (mostly) follow.

I suggest to the orthodox patriarch that its high time to reunite with the Roman Church so that our claim of the Hagia Sophia is more forcefull to the muslim Turkey. Its high time to disregard our doctrinal pride between eastern and western churches. Our pride on whoever the primacy should be avoided and must be stop because that is the only cause of division. We should unite once more because in "UNION THERE IS strenght". I am a roman catholic but I am too much bothered what is happening to the once glorious and magnificient Hagia Sophia church. Am hoping for the UNITY of the eastern and western churches. Am praying to mama mary to help us agree on matters of little and tiny doctrinal issues. Am praying to the Holy Spirit that He will enlighten the minds both sides and heal the wounds of division caused by pride.

There will be no peace on earth because of religious fanaticism. Orthodox are considered 2nd class citizen of the country who were ruled once by former christian byzantine emperor. The Hagia Sophia was built by Orthodox people but sequestered by the invading muslims. No respect of religious freedom.It should have been returned to the orthodox so that the spirit of ECUMINISM is present and be seen by the world that the muslim turks is sincere in thier commitment in fostering brotherhood to humankind.Let us touch the heavens with fervent prayers,..asking the intercession of the mother Christ to stop the desecration of the Church of Christ. Let us pray to Jesus that the Hagia Sophia will be returned back to the Orthodox church management.

The number is definitely higher and that professor is probably going to disappear in some jail. Turkey is having serious problems. The omens are bad for the mongol horde. Their muezzin dropped dead in Hagia Sophia, their economy is collapsing, they are are losing in every front & falling in the geopolitical traps they set up for others, yesterday a Greek warship rammed one of their "advanced" warships in the Eastern Mediterranean and she lost her propellers. Turkey is going to crash and burn, they are going to hell in a hand basket.
