Trabzon, Turkey, August 17, 2020
On Saturday, August 15, the new calendar feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Panagia Sumela Monastery in Trabzon, Turkey for the first time since 2015.
The monastery finally reopened in late July after 5 years of restoration work, during which no one was allowed to serve in the monastery.
The service was celebrated by Metropolitans Stefanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, Maximos of Selyvria, and Ioannis of Zambia of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, reports the Metropolis of Zambia.
The Liturgy was filled with reverence and emotion. “With religious fervor, the faithful communed and worshiped at the monument of Pontian Hellenism,” writes the Metropolis.
