Several moderate and minor earthquakes shook Mt. Athos over the weekend.
According to amna.gr, the first struck at 10:39 PM on Saturday night, with a 4.2 magnitude and an epicenter 13.5 miles southwest of the Athonite peninsula. The most severe, with a 5.2 magnitude, was recorded at 1:50 AM on Sunday morning, followed by a series of other minor quakes.
No serious damages or injuries were reported.
Another 4.2 earthquake struck yesterday at 3:22 PM, with an epicenter 11 miles south-southwest of the peninsula. According to amna.gr, there was slight damage at the police station in Karyes.
The most severe of the earthquakes came while monks across the Holy Mountain were celebrating the All-Night Vigil for the feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Lifegiving Cross of the Lord.
