His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria will celebrate his 75th birthday tomorrow, in solitude and prayer due to the epidemiological situation in the country, according to a press release from the Sofia Metropolis of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

“His Holiness the Patriarch addresses all his children who wish to congratulate him, to do so by praying for the health, peace and prosperity of our pious people,” the statement reads.

Moreover, the Patriarch also asks that, in lieu of flowers or other gifts, the faithful make donations to the Sofia Metropolis’ Department of Mercy and Charity, or to assist a disadvantaged person of their own choice.

For several years now, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has also asked the clergy and faithful to donate to various causes in lieu of flowers for his birthday and name’s day and the feasts of Nativity and Pascha. For example, the Russian Church’s St. Alexis of Moscow Hospital opened a state-of-the-art pathomorphological laboratory in May 2019 with funds collected for the feast of the Nativity.
