His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, one of the most authoritative and respected hierarchs of the Church of Cyprus, was honored at a special event in Limassol yesterday.
On the occasion of the national anniversary of October 28, 1940, known as Ohi Day, the Association of Fighters of the City and District of Limassol held an anniversary event in the hall of the Holy Metropolis of Limassol, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.
As part of the celebration, Met. Athanasios was honored with the Association’s Parthenon Medal for his contribution to the Orthodox Church, the nation, the homeland, and Cypriot society.
“In the person of Geronda were honored all the sacred personages of clerical teachers that saved the Greek Nation in the years of slavery,” the Associates writes on Facebook.
“The Parthenon Medal is a reward, it is gratitude, it is encouragement, but it is also a baton of responsibility between generations,” the Association explains.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Limassol and State Deputies from the Limassol District, and also included a short film and an artistic program.
