Photo: Telegram Giant murals of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije, the newly-departed head of the Metropolis of Montenegro of the Serbian Orthodox Church, now adorn city streets in Serbia and Republika Srpska.
Met. Amfilohije reposed in the Lord on October 30 after serving in Montenegro for three decades. Tens of thousands of Orthodox faithful and Montenegrin citizens came to his funeral to bid farewell to their beloved archpastor.
The first mural, in the city of Foča in Republika Srpska in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a painting of a famous black-and-white photo of His Eminence. Next to the painting, the artist, Vladimir Milanovi
Čaka, painted the inscription: “We are the prayer rope of your soul. Your children, your family. Goodbye dear father, go to your home. Eternal memory in the eternal Kingdom!” reports Fr. Ignaty (Shestakov) of Sretensky Monastery.
The second mural was painted by Sava Mišić next to the elementary school in Niš, Serbia. The location of the mural was specifically chosen so children can see the portrait of Met. Amfilohije and “see and feel his spirit, adopt the values that he carries, and draw nearer to Orthodoxy,” reports the Metropolis of Montenegro.
Early last month, when Met. Amfilohije was known to be sick, but before his repose, his image and a message of support for him were put on a billboard in the city of Trebinje in Republika Srpska.
