Following the repose of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro from complications due to COVID on October 30, the Metropolitan Synod of Montenegro chose His Grace Bishop Joanikije of Budimlja and Nikšić, 61, as temporary administrator of the Metropolis.

On November 4, Bp. Joanikije also tested positive for the coronavirus and went into isolation at the Monastery of St. George in Berane.

On Saturday, November 28, the Montenegrin Metropolis reported that, following a comprehensive examination, doctors announced the successful completion of His Grace’s treatment. According to the tests, his body has developed immunity to the coronavirus.

Both the period of necessary self-isolation and the period of rehabilitation established by the doctors passed, and Bp. Joanikije has been cleared to return to gradually return to his archpastoral duties under doctors’ supervision.

His Grace and the diocese both expressed their gratitude to the staff of the city hospital in Berane.
