The St. Polycarp of Smyrna Mission Church of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Sanford, Maine celebrated the illumination of several new members this week.

As the ROCOR Eastern American Diocese reports, 8 Baptisms were celebrated on Sunday and another on Monday.

St. Polycarp’s is a Greek Rite mission of ROCOR with services mainly in English.

The Baptisms on Sunday were celebrated by the rector Fr. Photius Zelinski together with Fr. Abraham Fortier of Holy Archangels Western Rite Church in Waterville, Maine. On Monday, Fr. Photius celebrated the ninth Baptism at the St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church in Richmond, Maine.

The newly-illumined Orthodox Christians represent three families, the EAD reports. Fr. Photius was able to occasionally celebrate services during the pandemic and provide resources to the catechumens so they could finish their catechumenate.

According to the St. Polycarp Mission’s Facebook page, there is still another inquirer, “with more on the way.”

Many years to the newly-illumined Kyraki, Matthew, Ottalia, Owen, Monica, Columba, Magdalena, Elizabeth, and Marina!

Anyone who would like to support the work of this growing mission can contact Fr. Photius at rector@stpolycarp.net or make a donation via GoFundMe.
