Despite all the financial difficulties of 2020, the Archdiocese of Timișoara of the Romanian Orthodox Church spent more than $1 million on various philanthropic activities.
The matter was discussed at a diocesan assembly under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan John of Banat held on Saturday, January 23. According to the official site of the Metropolis of Banat, it was reported at the Assembly that approximately $1,094,000 (900,000 euros) were spent on various projects and activities benefiting both individuals and institutions in a difficult financial situation.
“In spite of all the financial difficulties,” the diocese said in a statement, “support activities have been intensified by the Diocesan Center and our church units, with donations to hospitals, schools, settlements for children and the elderly, sick and lonely believers, families with many children, medical and protective equipment, medical devices, food and clothing, tablets, kilometers of linen and other items of strict necessity.”
The Archdiocese invested the same amount in philanthropic services in 2018. The Archdiocese has also been known to donating houses to needy families.
