Metropolitan Atanasije (Jevtić)’s health deteriorating, Patriarch Porfirije in self-isolation

Metropolitan Atanasije (Jevtić), the retired hierarch of Herzegovina of the Serbian Orthodox Church was hospitalized with the coronavirus on February 17.

According to a report from the Metropolis of Montenegro yesterday, the renowned theologian’s health has deteriorated over the past week. He is still in the hospital in Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina in serious condition, with inflammation in both lungs.

He is being treated with non-invasive respiratory support.

And according to a press release from the Serbian Patriarchate this afternoon, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije is in self-isolation, according to doctor’s advice, after coming into contact with a priest who was then diagnosed with an asymptomatic form of COVID-19.

OrthoChristian also reported that His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bačka and His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America are suffering from the coronavirus, though both are reported to be doing better. His Grace Bishop Lavrentije of Šabac was also hospitalized in Belgrade after having a negative reaction to the COVID vaccine.

His Grace Bishop Teodosije of Raška and Prizren in Kosovo was also hospitalized with a mild case of the virus several days ago.
