Just one week ago, OrthoChristian reported on the mass Baptism of 40 converts to holy Orthodoxy in Tanzania.

Despite the adverse conditions that create so much poverty, disease, and pandemic, Orthodoxy continues to flourish in Tanzania, and such joyous celebrations are a fairly common occurrence. With the blessing of Bishop Agathonikos of Arusha and Central Tanzania, another mass Baptism was recently celebrated at the Iringa Missionary Center, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

According to the missionary center’s report, its work “continues to bear fruit, attracting hundreds of our native brothers to the Orthodox faith.”

“Our brothers and sisters, young and old, received the grace of Holy Baptism at the baptistery of the Iringa Missionary Center, by expatriate priests, in an atmosphere of joy and emotion,” the center reports.

“Leaving the baptistery, the newly illumined thanked their brothers from Greece, who lovingly support the work of the Mission by strengthening the new members of our Church in the blessed beginning of their lives!” the report concludes.

More than 500 Tanzanians received Holy Baptism in February 2019, and another 230 in January 2020. In September, a mass wedding for the Orthodox faithful of the Maasai tribe in Tanzania was held, and another 80 were baptized in January this year.

Yesterday, OrthoChristian reported that 500 copies of an Orthodox prayer book in Swahili, 500 icons of the Savior, 500 icons of the Theotokos, and 500 stickers with the Orthodox cross were sent to the faithful of Tanzania by the Russian Orthodox Church.
