A new book presenting the first English translation from Russian of the correspondence between St. Sophrony (Sakharov) of Essex and Archpriest Georges Florovsky will soon be available from St. Tikhon’s Monastery Press.

The Cross of Loneliness presents their correspondence from 1954 to 1963, translated by Deacon Nicholas Kotar, in which they discuss the “loss of an Orthodox theological culture in which life and dogma are joined in a deep and conscious union”—what they term the “cross of loneliness.

They also discuss the publication of the first English edition of St. Sophrony’s book on St. Silouan the Athonite, and theological matters such as the Filioque, the doctrine of the Trinity, and the question of union with the non-Chalcedonians.

The book also features an introduction by Rev. Dr. Alexis Torrance, Associate Professor of Byzantine Theology at the University of Notre Dame, and Fr. Georges’ foreword to The Undistorted Image—the original St. Silouan book in English.

The book is expected to be released on March 30 and can be ordered now from St. Tikhon’s Monastery Bookstore and Press.

Yesterday, OrthoChristian reported that His Eminence Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus’ The Ecclesial Crisis in Ukraine and its Solution According to the Sacred Canons will soon be available from Holy Trinity Publications.
