Greek Orthodox youth movement gives new icon to street preacher attacked in Athens

Athens, March 22, 2021

Photo: Facebook Photo: Facebook The national Greek Orthodox Youth movement found a man who was attacked earlier this month while preaching on the streets of Athens and gifted him a new icon.

The crowd, which had gathered in support of a member of a terrorist organization who was recently sentenced to life in prison for murdering 11 people, that attacked the man knocked the icon of the Theotokos out of his hand and ripped it in two, though the man picked it up and continued to preach.

“As a sign of deep gratitude and practical support in the struggle for the homeland and Orthodoxy” which Mr. Apostolos is engaged, the Greek Orthodox Youth Movement resolved to offer him “a special gift of love, support and brotherhood in Christ” in the form of a silver-plated Athonite-style icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the movement reports on Facebook.

The movement writes of the man:

Mr. Apostolos is a real modern defender of the Orthodox identity in the difficult times we are going through. With unyielding courage and a fierce struggle, he carries out a mission of sacrifice and confession, which inflames the heart and soul of every persecuted Christian, whose faith is hit by the arrows of globalization and the new order of things.

Thus, in honor of the feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy when the restoration of icons is celebrated, the movement decided to restore the honor to the “Warrior General,” the Most Holy Theotokos, who was viciously attacked by the “anarcho-progressive mob.”

The report concludes:

It is the duty and sacred duty of all of us young Greek nationalists to fight back against the passion, darkness, and hatred of those blasphemous armies that furiously fight whatever constitutes our personality and metaphysical existence and seek to eliminate Orthodoxy from the hearts of our pious people. We are on God’s side and we will win!

The mob would go protest for human rights of one person, then at the same day they would beat another person and tear apart what is most dear to him. What kind of righteousness is that? Unlike the two-faced mob, Mr. Apostolos follows his belief. He lives up to his name.
