We should love to go to church, to the house of God, where we find everything needful for this life and for eternal life, says His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.

In the most recent edition of “The Word of the Primate” on Ukrainian television, His Beatitude spoke about how Christians spend a lot of time in church during Great Lent, where we can receive God’s grace and strength to walk through this life.

“The church is the place where a man receives God’s grace and power, which protects and helps him to fulfill his earthly life with dignity, to carry his worldly cross with dignity,” the Metropolitan said.

Moreover, the church is a hospital, where man is cleansed of the sinful dirt that defiles him, thanks to the Sacraments of the Church.

“A church is a place where people gather for prayer. For us, a church is not only a place where we communicate with God and see each other. A church is a school of piety, it is a spiritual hospital. In church, we purify ourselves from the sinful filth that makes us unpleasing not only in the eyes of God, but also in the eyes of each other,” the Ukrainian primate emphasized.

“Let us love the church of God,” Met. Onuphry called. “In church, we will find everything we need for a decent earthly life. In church we will see each other, in church we will see the most important thing—we will see God—God, Who works, Who is present in church with His greatness, with His Body and Blood, which the Lord gives us to eat, in order to make us able to contain eternal salvation and life.”

“In church, we will become more noble, more beautiful, more majestic. Love the church of God! May God bless us!” His Beatitude concluded.
