The Russian Orthodox Church has made another humanitarian donation to Syrian children suffering from the Islamic terrorist war.

The representation of the Russian Church in Damascus took part in a recent humanitarian event in the Syrian Daraa Governorate, presenting a number of wheelchairs purchased by Canadian philanthropist Patrick to Benoit for children affected by the military operations, reports the press service of the Russian Orthodox Church.

With the help of Russian negotiators, armed opposition groups laid down their arms in Daraa in 2018, though hotbeds of tension remain. The people are in need of basic necessities because of the consequences of the war and international sanctions, which hinder the reconstruction process.

The families of the victims, teachers, and medical workers were also given food packages and medicine from the All-Russian Combat Brotherhood Veterans organization. Among the beneficiaries were Orthodox Christians living in Daraa.

The Russian Church has offered such aid many times over the past several years. A donation of wheelchairs was also made in January of this year, and in March, a hospital in Homs received several pieces of new medical equipment.

Combat Brotherhood has made many generous donations to the suffering people of Syria.

For example, in October 2017, the Brotherhood delivered toys and school supplies to 2,500 Syrian Sunday School students. The following March, the organization offered a large donation to St. Thekla’s Monastery in Maaloula, which suffered under the control of terrorists for more than a year in 2014-2015.

His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch has expressed his deep gratitude to the Russian Church for his humanitarian aid and the Russian state for its help in the fight against terrorism many times.
