Ukrainian Cherubic Hymn wins internat’l Christian music competition (+VIDEO)

The 1st International Competition of Christian Music Composers was held online, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, from October 15 to May 16.

The competition included representatives of 15 countries competing in two categories: Liturgical Spiritual Music, and Concert Spiritual Music. The works were judged by a number of famous composers, performing musicians, teachers, artists, and Church and public figures, including Met. Hilarion.

As announced on the competition website, the winner of the Liturgical Spiritual Music category was the Cherubic Hymn by the Ukrainian composer Igor Filippov, performed by the choir of the Tithes Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos of the canonical Ukrainian Church in Kiev.

The hymn was submitted with the motto, “Prayer is the Most Important Thing.”

OrthoChristian reported on Wednesday that the choir of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Paris also took first prize at the Racconto di Primavera 2021 competition in Ravenna.
