Thanks to the Sofia Metropolis of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Church’s spiritual center for the social rehabilitation and integration of children is home to the most innovative therapy equipment.

The center was built on the initiative of the Sofia Metropolitan and the Monastery of St. George the Victorious in Kremikovtsi, outside Sofia. It was consecrated on October 12 by His Grace Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik, vicar of the Sofia Metropolis, and dedicated to the most beloved Bulgarian saint, St. John the Wonderworker of Rila.

On June 3, Bp. Polycarp visited the center again, following the donation of a new multifunctional device for low- and medium-frequency stimulation with ultrasound by the Sofia Metropolis, on the initiative of His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria and with the financial support of Mr. Anton Kostadinov, manager of the Sami-M food company, reports the Bulgarian Patriarchate.

The new piece of equipment has already been tested on a number of children and adults and has yielded very positive therapeutic results. The center is also equipped with a number of other high-tech devices and facilities for supporting children with disabilities and special educational needs.

On Thursday, Bp. Polycarp, together with Archimandrite Euthymius and Hierodeacon Polycarp, were warmly welcomed to the center by Fr. Seraphim (Yanev), the acting abbot of St. George Monastery, and Mrs. Eli Tsvetanova, the head of the St. John of Rila Rehabilitation Center.

In addition to the high-tech equipment, His Grace presented the center with a painting on behalf of Pat. Neofit, and the children from the center surprised the guests with an inspired performance of the Bulgarian national anthem, and emotionally shared their experiences at the center.

Plans for further equipping the center were discussed, and the bishop invited the children to visit the Metropolis of Sofia this month.

The Bulgarian Church also opened another social rehabilitation and integration center in the village of Gorna Malina last month, on Bright Friday.
