Parishioners of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church have banded together in a new public union aimed at uniting the active believers of the UOC who are not indifferent to the future of their country and their Church. It is time for the faithful to stop being a silent majority, Laity believes.

The new organization lays out its purpose on its Facebook page:

We live in a world today where dark intentions to pervert basic human needs and values often lurk under bright ideas. Under the pretext of combating gender inequality and any discrimination, Western ideology, which is alien to traditional Ukrainian culture, imposes the acceptance of non-traditional sexual orientations, same-sex marriage, and total sexual promiscuity upon us. We will explain clearly and in detail how this is done, and how to protect yourself and your loved ones from it, but most importantly—we will provide an information alternative with our educational and creative initiatives.

We, the laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, want to protect our world, our families, our children from this bacchanal of immorality and spiritual corruption. And we must protect it! How? It is very simple: by uniting and taking an active position—for our faith, for our values, for our Church. If these words resonate in your heart, then we are waiting for you!

The Laity internet platform will focus on education, creative projects, important news, the protection of rights and values, and urgent legal assistance for laypeople and priests. In addition to moral issues, Laity will also deal with the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Church.

Orthodox journalist and founder of Laity, Vasily Makarovsky called on all faithful to stop talking and start acting: “You can talk about [the persecution] for a long time, or write angry posts on Facebook, but isn’t it time for us to change something? We must take responsibility for our future, for the future of our children, otherwise someone else will do it.”

Laity is present on various social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Telegram), and can also be reached by telephone: +380684009759 and email: info@mirane.org.
