Thanks to the efforts of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, the poor and hungry in Berane, Montenegro, will have food for the foreseeable future.

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Mitrophan, a fundraiser was held throughout the diocese to support the Serbian Church’s Divna Veković People’s Kitchen in Berane, which provides meals for about 200 people daily, many of whom are refugees and displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija, reports the Diocese of Canada.

Funds were raised both through GoFundMe and private payments. In the end, about $12,000 (15,000 CAD) were raised, which is enough to fund the kitchen for a year.

The People’s Kitchen was blessed and officially opened on Bright Monday in 2017 by His Grace Bishop Joanikije of Budimlja and Nikšić (now the Metropolitan of Montenegro).
