The Orthodox community in the capital city of Cameroon had great cause for rejoicing this week, as several new members were baptized on the feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross.

Following the Divine Liturgy for the Cross, a number of adults and infants were united to Christ in Holy Baptism at the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Yaounde, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The Holy Sacrament was celebrated by Archimandrite Anastasios, Frs. Eleftherios and Marcel, and Deacon Andreas.
According to an archived version of the site of the Metropolis of Cameroon, the Orthodox Church accounts for about .75% of the population of 17 million, with more rapid growth witnessed in the northern parts of the country.
