After an earthquake rocked the island of Crete late last month, one monastery immediately organized the distribution of hundreds of meals daily to help the victims.
Photo: orthodoxianewsagency.gr The Holy Monastery of St. Marina Vóni, located in the center of the island, about 15 miles from Heraklion, now distributes about 550 portions of food daily throughout the surrounding villages, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.
The Holy Metropolis of Arkalochori Kastelli and Viannos expressed its thanks to the monastery kitchen, as well as to Archimandrite Agathangelos (Giannarakis), who coordinated the distribution of about 800 portions of food daily in the municipality of Minoa Pediados.
The Church of the Prophet Elijah in Arkalochori was destroyed in the quake. Unfortunately, Iakovos Tsagarakis, who had made a vow to preserve the church, perished in the destruction.
Another earthquake shook Crete again yesterday, hitting 6.3 on the Richter scale. The Church of St. Nicholas in Xirokampos, Sitia, unfortunately collapsed, reports orthodoxia.info.
