Metropolitan of Diospolis (Alexandria) reposes in the Lord

Photo: patriarchateofalexandria.com Photo: patriarchateofalexandria.com His Eminence Metropolitan Proterios of Diospolis of the Patriarchate of Alexandria reposed in the Lord yesterday at the age of 75, having served in ordained ministry for 49 years, the Patriarchate reports.

Met. Proterios was born Stylianos Pavlopoulos on July 28, 1946, in Naxos, Greece. He studied at the Theological Academy of Athens and was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in December 1972.

On March 3, 2001, he was consecrated as Metropolitan of Irenopolis (Tanzania). On October 27, 2004, he was elected Metropolitan of Ptolemais, and on November 26, 2014, he retired with the title Metropolitan of Diospolis.
