Rakoshino, Transcarpathia Province, Ukraine, November 10, 2021
In March, thieves stole the jewelry left by the faithful in gratitude for miraculous healings by the Nankovo Icon of the Mother of God at an Orthodox monastery in western Ukraine.
In its place, the monks of the Holy Protection Monastery in the village of Rakoshino placed fresh branches of snow-white lilies inside the icon’s frame.
Eight months later, the branches, which had dried up, miraculously bloomed, the Ukrainian outlet First Cable reported yesterday.
The fresh flowers first appeared a week ago.
The abbot Archimandrite Mitrophan (Shimon) explains: “The Mother of God glorified herself in the flowering of these dry branches and showed the presence of the grace of God, that everything impossible can be possible.”
The Nankovo Icon was painted around 1926 by Archimandrite Andrei (Kolomatsky), who founded the current monastery church. The icon began weeping in 1998, which is clearly visible even now.
Dry lilies placed under the glass of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Icon at All Saints Monastery in the Mukachevo Diocese have also bloomed in time for Pentecost every year for the past decade.
