Sura, Arkhangelsk Province, November 12, 2021
On November 1, a monument to the Righteous St. John of Kronstadt, one of the most beloved Russian saints, was opened in his home village.
The bust was unveiled by Archimandrite Joseph (Volkov) at the entrance to the Church of St. John Kronstadt in the village of Sura, Arkhangelsk Province, in northwestern Russia, reports the Arkhangelsk Diocese.
As of 2010, the population of Sura was 727, with 11 streets.
The monument was earlier consecrated in the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kronstadt, where the great wonderworker served. The entire project was supported by local charities.
Three identical sculptures will be sent as gifts to Orthodox communities in Australia, Los Angeles, and Abkhazia.
In his address, Metropolitan Kornily of Arkhangelsk noted that St. John’s prayerful protection is especially felt in the village, and that the monastery he founded there, revived several years ago, spiritually nourishes the faithful in Sura and the surrounding villages.
