The Serbian Orthodox Church has recorded audio version of the Psalms for those who are blind or visually impaired. An audio recording of the entire Bible is planned as well.

“We have the ambition to record the whole of Holy Scripture, both the Old and New Testaments, as audio recordings, with the help of many artists, to offer as the smallest gift to those who can’t read,” said His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, reports the Metropolis of Montenegro.

The Patriarch made this announcement at the ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Serbian Association of the Blind and the 50th anniversary of the Association’s library, which provides thousands of braille books and audio recordings.

His Holiness also noted that many who have bodily sight are, in fact, spiritually blind, while many who don’t have bodily sight have true spiritual vision, and understand the secret of the existence of man.

“Whether we have external vision or not, we must enlighten our inner being with the true light every day… We’ll see the very essence and truth as the light that liberates us,” the Patriarch said.

OrthoChristian previously reported on an Orthodox prayer book for the blind published in Arkhangelsk, Russia, in 2016, and a Georgian braille edition of the book of Genesis published in 2020.
