The Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church held its last session of 2021 at the Kiev Caves Lavra yesterday, during which data on the growth of the Church in various areas was presented.

Despite persecution from schismatics and local officials, the Church has grown in number of parishes, monasteries, clergy, and monastics over the past year, and several saints were canonized.

According to the report from His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Bovary, the Chancellor of the UOC, the number of parish communities increased from 12,374 to 12,381 over the past year. 22 churches were built, 18 of which have already been consecrated, and the UOC Legal Department recorded 7 cases of churches seized by the schismatics of the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”

The total number of clerics increased by 57 to 12,513, as compared to 2020.

5 monasteries were established in 2021, increasing the number to 260. The number of monastics also increased by 82 to 4,630.

Additionally, the UOC canonized a twentieth-century hierarch and five other ascetics of piety from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in 2021.

Dear Editor, thank you, I love how part of the Ukrainian Church is under Vladimir Putin and part of it is under President Zelensky. The Ukrainian Church prays for both of them, and blesses not only the armies of Russia, but also the armies of Ukraine.

Steve: Yes, the Crimea is still under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. That has not changed.

Since Crimea is now part of Russia, then how does the Ukrainian Church include it in these statistics? A bishop that oversees the Russian territory of Crimea can also be part of the Ukrainian Church?
