The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece is allocating hundreds of thousands of dollars to fire victims throughout Greece.

Having met in Athens yesterday under the chairmanship of Archbishop Ieronymos, the Synod announced that thanks to offerings from the Archdiocese of Athens, the Metropolises of the Church of Greece, the Patriarchate of Serbia, and Constantinople’s Archdiocese of Theyateira, about $315,000 (276,000 euros) was collected, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The funds will be sent to victims in the fire-affected areas of Ilia, Kifissia, Maroussi, Oropos and Marathon, Mani, Megara, Salamis, and Chalkidos.

As OrthoChristian reported yesterday, the Synod also condemned the Turkish profanation of the ancient Panagia Sumela Monastery.
