Thanks to the quick and generous response of the local diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Karpathos Fire Department was able to purchase machinery to save people in car accidents.

A donation of $11,285 (10,000 euros) from the Metropolis of Karpathos and Kasos was used to purchase the Jaws of Life, used to pray apart the wreckage of crashed vehicles to free the people trapped inside, reports Vima Orthodoxias.

The request for the purchase of the device came from the local police chief, “and we must note that the reaction of Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos was literally immediate,” the outlet writes.

The Metropolitan also gave $1,285 (1,000 euros) to each church of his diocese to care for the needy.
