Former Metropolitan of Sweden reposes in the Lord

Photo: romfea.gr Photo: romfea.gr Metropolitan Pavlos of Amaseia, the former ruling hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia, reposed in the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, at the age of 87, reports the Finnish Orthodox Church.

He served 66 years in ordained ministry, including 48 years as a bishop.

His funeral will be served in Sweden. May his memory be eternal!

Met. Pavlos was born in Turkey in 1935.

He was ordained to the diaconate in 1956, and in 1958 he graduated from the Theological School of Halki, and later from the theological and law faculties of the University of Thessaloniki, with doctorates in theology and law.

From 1958 to 1974 he worked in the office of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. On November 30, 1970, he was ordained to the priesthood and appointed secretary of the Holy Synod. On April 30, 1974, he was elected administrator of the Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia. He was consecrated on May 12.

On May 5, 2014, he was elected Metropolitan of Amaseia, though he didn’t accept this appointment, and was retired by the Holy Synod.
