Mt. Athos documentary will be shown for free online in April (+VIDEO)

A documentary about the Holy Mountain will be shown online in the U.S. for free next month.

Athos, the World’s Brightest Peak, about the monastic center of Orthodox Christianity, will be available online from April 16 to 25. when it will be participating in the San Francisco Greek Film Festival.

The film, which follows three Athonite monks, won the Astron Audience Award at the San Francisco Greek Film Festival last year.

The hour-long documentary is in Greek with English subtitles.

Synopsis:

Three monks from Mt. Athos, the largest monastic center of Orthodox Christianity, share their thoughts about faith, monasticism, their decision to become monks, their lives on Athos, and the monastic community. The camera travels across the peninsula, reaching pristine places and the summit of Mount Athos, recording snapshots from the monks’ everyday lives, including images unknown even to regular visitors of the Holy Mountain.

The first biography of Elder Paisios of Mount Athos was a special offering of Fr. Isaac to the Orthodox world. He began working on the book about his spiritual father two years after Fr. Paisios’ death.
