The house of a local teacher unfortunately burned down on the feast of Annunciation in the western Bulgarian village of Kravoder.

Strong winds and several fires in the area delayed firefighters for more than an hour. News footage shows that nearly everything in the home was completely destroyed.

But notably, a small icon survived the fire, reports Doxologia Infonews, with reference to btvnovinite.bg.

Btvnovinite reports that the icon is of St. Menas, though the most well-known St. Menas wasn’t a bishop, as is the case with the saint in the icon, who appears to be St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The house caught fire just as the woman, Natalia Todorova, was returning from the hospital in the nearby city of Montana. Her neighbor saw her come home and started talking to her when they noticed the thick black smoke coming from the house. Thus, the neighbor very likely saved her life.

The village mayor proposed to the municipal council to give the woman financial help to rebuild her home, and friends and relatives have launched a fundraising campaign to help her rebuild.

The news report below shows the extent of the damage and the surviving icon:

To Father Jacobus: I think you are correct Father. It looks like Saint Nicholas to me, as I have the same Icon. Another sign that the Orthodox Church is the Only True Church, since we are the only Church that has always used Icons for two millenniums now. I also thank God that the news media in Bulgaria aired this story. Do you think the Western news media would ever show a story like this? Of course not, the Western news media likes to run stories about the no good liberals, and the no good liberal garbage that they preach. God bless my Bulgarian Orthodox Brothers. They are good people. Just my humble opinion.

The saint on the icon is a bishop, which is not true of St. Menas...correct me if I am wrong.
