Glyfada, Greece, April 8, 2022
A considerable amount of humanitarian aid for Ukraine was gathered in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Glyfada recently.
Metropolitan Antonios of Glyfada issued an appeal to the heads of parish charity funds to collect essential items for those suffering in Ukraine, and within two weeks, “the result of this collective effort exceeded all expectations,” reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.
“Christians have proved that even in the age of individualism and narcissistic egoism the virtues of love and solidarity are deeply rooted in their hearts.”
The aid was collected from the 20 parishes of the Metropolis, in the end filling up four trucks. The items will be sent to Ukraine via the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece.
The collected items included:
-
5,400 bed linens
-
3.8 tons of clothing
-
1,435 lbs. of diapers
-
3,745 lbs. of rice
-
3,305 lbs. of beans
-
3,525 lbs. of pasta
-
3,085 lbs. of canned food
-
315 gallons of long-lasting milk
-
