The Russian Orthodox Church is celebrating the 600th anniversary of the finding of the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh this year, with the main celebrations scheduled to begin in July.
In honor of the great celebration, several churches of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, where the great saint’s relics are kept, are being rebuilt and restored, as Patriarch Kirill noted at a meeting of the organizing committee on April 14, reports the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism.
The projects include rebuilding the wooden Church of St. Sergius at the Lavra’s Skete at the Gremyachy Spring, which burned down in 2020, restoring the terrace of the main monastery’s Refectory Church, and preservation work on the Holy Trinity and Holy Dormition Cathedrals. Work on the churches has been underway for two years now.
Buildings belonging to the Moscow Theological Academy, located on the territory of the Lavra, are also being restored and modernized to improve living conditions for faculty and students.
