This coming Saturday, May 21, Orthodox Christians Pro-Life will hold their traditional monthly prayer service for an end to abortion in front of an abortion mill in New York City. Everyone is welcome to join—contact the society for additional information. Now is a good time for Orthodox Christians to witness to the whole anti-abortion movement that our Church is pro-life. It’s also a good time to show that the expression the “pro-life generation” also applies to the youth of the Orthodox faith—come and prove this with us!

We are awaiting the coming overturning of Roe v. Wade any day now, possibly in June, but we must be ready to respond every day because it could happen earlier.

Orthodox Christians Pro-Life thus announces that it will hold a rally at New York City Hall at Centre St. & Chambers St. in Manhattan at 2 pm (tentatively) on the day that Roe is overturned. We also invite all to hold such event in their own city. The Orthodox Pro-Life Society can signs and brochures for you, and promote your event and assist in any way necessary.

To apply for assistance, fill out this form right away. Kits have already been ordered for Fr. Alexis Miller of Holy Transfiguration Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Crawfordsville, IN, and for a parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, TX. Please reach out to us if you would like to help Fr. Alexis develop the local pro-life group, Montgomery County Orthodox Christian Association, which is preparing a rally against Roe v. Wade on May 30, or if you would like to help establish a Texas Orthodox pro-life movement.

Millions of Americans have been eagerly awaiting the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and now it seems to be near at hand, but even after this important victory, there will still be a lot of work to be done changing state-level legislation. Let us remember the words of St. Paisios of Mt. Athos: “The law legalizing abortions is against the commandments of the Gospel. When a man disobeys one commandment, he alone is responsible. When it becomes the law of the land, then the wrath of God falls upon the whole nation, that it may be chastened.”

Moving towards their goal, Orthodox Christians Pro-Life held a street witness event last Saturday, May 14, near the Thurgood Marshall Unites States Courthouse, to remind the pro-choicers gathered at that time at Foley Square that the violence of abortion is nothing to celebrate. The witness of Orthodox Christians in the public arena appeared both in local, and in federal media. Also, watch this short video from the scene.

Orthodox pro-lifers also witnessed to the truth about abortion earlier on May 10, in the heart of Manhattan, supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade. They received a good deal of support from passersby.

Besides street activities, the Pro-Life Society also carries out charitable work. For example, a donation was made to an Orthodox couple to help them adopt a child.

The Society received feedback from the Let Them Live project about a recent donation. The message reads:

Feeling abandoned by her family with nowhere left to run, Beth found you to be the support system she desperately needed. Thank you for becoming a safe heaven for Beth and her baby. Knowing that this precious life is now safe from abortion is overwhelmingly beautiful.

The Society also continues to take care of Lara, a mother from Pittsburg who lost a baby due to miscarriage. She still needs help, but with the help already received she was able to move to a new place.

Since the only Orthodox maternity house in the US—Sts. Martha and Mary in Chicago—no longer accepts the pregnant to live in the house, St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Pro-Life Society is looking for possibilities to open an Orthodox maternity house in New York.
