Demidovka, Rivne Province, Ukraine, May 26, 2022
The local Ukrainian Orthodox priest and parishioners installed a large memorial cross at the entrance to their village of Demidovka, Rivne Province, yesterday.
Within an hour, schismatics cut destroyed the Lord’s cross, calling it “Muscovite,” reports the Rivne Diocese.
A cross was initially erected by the late rector of the St. John the Theologian Church, Archpriest Peter Kopach. A strong wind blew the cross over 3 months ago, and the current rector, Archpriest Vasily Ivaneiko, cleaned up the site, burned the old cross, and ordered a new one. The new cross was very heavy, requiring eight men to install it.
Fr. Vasily had brought out men a few months ago to take measurements for the installation of a new cross.
This angered the local schismatic priest.
“He told me not to try it, because there will be no ‘Moscow’ cross here. If we put it up, they’ll cut it down. I couldn’t believe they’d to this, because the cross isn’t Muscovite, it’s the cross of Christ,” said Father Vasily.
The attack on the cross comes just days after schismatics burst into a church and doused the priest with a staining green disinfectant while he was celebrating the Divine Liturgy.
