Uganda: New mission center celebrates mass Baptism (+VIDEO)

Kampala, Uganda, June 27, 2022

On the feast Pentecost, Sunday, May 30/June 12, the members of the St. John the Wonderworker Mission Center in Kampala, Uganda, celebrated the Baptism of 17 new members of the Orthodox Church on the shores of Lake Victoria.

The Mission Center was started as a joint ministry with the Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church on Bukasa Island and the charitable organization Orthodox Africa. The center is dedicated to providing spiritual care to the many ROCOR parishioners of Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church who have had to leave the island in search of jobs and to help mentor and train future leaders of the Orthodox Church in Africa.

The majority of these new converts have come to the Orthodox Church with a strong desire to see the Orthodox faith introduced to their compatriots in Uganda. In addition to joining the Orthodox Church, they have dedicated themselves to helping grow the St. John the Wonderworker Mission in the Kampala region and witnessing to the truth of the Orthodox faith to their neighbors not only in word but by deed.
