His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah of Kamapala and All Uganda of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, who enjoyed respect throughout the Orthodox Church, reposed in the Lord last year in September. He was laid to rest later that month at St. Nicholas Cathedral in the Namungonna neighborhood of Kampala.

At its January session, the Alexandrian Holy Synod elected several new hierarchs and reorganized and created new dioceses. It was decided to transfer Metropolitan Jeronymos (Muzeeyi) of Mwanza, Tanzania, to the Diocese of Kampala to replace Met. Jonah.

Jonah, with the concelebration of Metropolitan Innocentios of Burundi and Rwanda, Bishop Silvester of Jinja and Eastern Uganda, and Bishop Nektarios of Gulu and Northern Uganda, who himself was just consecrated earlier in the week.
